Time for some news...

Hey, So I realized today that I needed to post a new post! It's been awhile and lots has happened. We finally finished drywalling the basement. Now we just need to do the mudding and sanding. I can't wait until the project is complete, especially since all the extra furniture we have for the basement has now been piled into the upstairs rooms making them feel small and busy!

Jasper was great. The Jasper Park Lodge, which came with our package, was so nice. Actually, too nice for us since we felt out of our realm. Its one of those hotels, like the Banff Springs hotel, where rich people go for vacations. However, it was really nice and we took advantage of all it had to offer. We did some shopping downtown one day, spent lots of time in the outdoor pool, and went on this canyon walk. It was super cool. You can go at night, and it only happens during the winter because you walk on the frozen maligne river through these canyons (which are like 30 feet high and apparently in spring are filled with water). There were caves, frozen waterfalls, etc. Very, very beautiful. (I don't know if this link will work cause I don't really know how to link things yet). Anyhow, if it does, imagine that picture at night with the moonlight and then imagine 3 hours of fun times in that sort of setting. Lots of the caves were the type where you would have to come back later on your own and go into them. As you can imagine, it go Jarvis all hyped up again about camping (Jesse you may need to come home sometime and go camping with the boy just to re-live the good old days that I keep hearing about!). Anyhow, overall the trip was really relaxing and fun, and it was really nice to be back in the mountains again. The train ride was also pretty cool. We met Steve Iserman's aunt...who was sitting next to us and the retired head chemist for 3M in the US. I didn't know such people traveled on the train. I would definitely like to take the train through the Rockies one day (all the way to Vancouver). Oh, I almost forgot the best part. In the bottom of the hotel there was this little sushi bar. If you ever go to Jasper you have to visit it. The food is amazing. We went there for a little "bedtime snack" and wished we had gone for supper. We had this BBQ double eel roll....amazing...I can't even begin to describe it.

School is going okay. We picked all of our rotations for next year a couple of weeks ago. It's nice to know what I'll be taking next year. Basically there are various 2 or 4 week rotations you can do in fourth year in different parts of the clinic. some of them have very limited space so only a few people get to do them. Our whole class meets for 3-4 hours and are put on this computer generated random list and then you walk up to the front in that order and pick one rotation at a time. If it fills up you either can't take it or are forced to take it at a time when you didn't want to. It's very nerve racking. However, I am happy with the rotations that I got. I get to take one of them (bovine field service) at the beginning of the summer (May 30-May 13) and then I start work in Lethbridge on May 14 at a mixed practice.

Your trip sounds very cool! It inspires me to take a Canadian train trip when I'm back there! i know what you mean about feeling out of your element - when we go out for kevin's work functions and such, i always feel like such a poser, I'm just a little ol' prairie girl!
oh I love sushi; they have better Sushi in singapore I'm sure - you'll have to come here to see if this is true ;)
I'm glad the rotations worked out well!

Natasha and I were talking about how we should see if you and Jarvis wanted to go on a camping trip with us this summer. Just tell Jarvis that he can't filter water from the river naked like last time, my wife doesn't want to see that.

If that happens....which would be totally fun and I would be up for planning that...I don't want to see you running through the woods like a naked sasquatch (I don't know how to spell that word!) either.
